Los Angeles based ceramicist, Chrissy Hsieh, started working in ceramics since August 2022. Originally a physician and a lawyer, Hsieh’s creativity and passion for the arts exploded when she touched clay for the first time.
Hsieh feels that with ceramics, the artist needs to relinquish part of the control to the will of the clay and the best pieces are formed when harmony and balance are achieved. Every piece she creates stems from a basic concept that evolves during the process. She believes that life is most precious when we least expect it.
Hsieh signs all her art pieces with the Chinese character “戒” (pronounced as “jie”) which is the first virtue in Buddhist teaching. A native of Taiwan, her ceramic works often demonstrates the blending of the two cultures, balancing fearless expression with meditative harmony.
Hsieh’s work has been shown in group exhibitions and solo exhibition at various galleries in California.
